H2C 2008
Has anyone read the email from H2C about registering for next year's race? Who's in? I am.
I've even started training - I know what you're thinking. That guy doesn't train at all and then brings down the whole group. Not true.
So, who wants to do this thing?

Sorry for Cold Showers
I wanted to apologize to all those who stayed at the Holt house and took cold showers during HTC. I seems my hot water heater had a defective part that was causing the cold water to mix with the hot such that hot showers were luke warm after the first shower of the day.
The issue is the dip tube for water heaters that the builder installed when the house was built (1996) is defective. It is made of a type of PVC that breaks down after 10 years of exposure to hot water. This puts PVC particles into your pluming and causes a mix of cold water into hot. Every house in my neighborhood has had this problem as they were all build in the 90's.
The kids have been complaining about it for about a year but I just assumed they were just whiners on the second shower because my first shower was always fine. Although, I have had to crank it all they way up to get hot water.
Since I replaced the dip tupe ($10) and flushed the water heater showers are now scalding hot - even on the third shower.

The 13th Runner
Well, It is official! And, dang it, Cathy beat us to the punch on putting it on the blog!
Right after we got home, Sue made me go out at 1:00 in the morning to buy a pregnancy test. Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a pregnancy test at 1:00 in the morning? Just to be sure, we used all three of the tests, and it was a definitive YES. Holy cow.
Sue says that looking back, she can now see why her running times had slowed so much in the two weeks leading up to the race and why that extra umph was so hard to find. We should have known when we saw the rabbit while waiting for Sue's first leg that something was up. Anne says that a rabbit coming around means someone is pregnant.
We had SO MUCH FUN doing this run. Truly an experience not to be forgotten. We expect all of you to join us in the Catalina Marathon next March (Sue will be 8 months then. D'ya think she might do it???)
And for those of you who don't already know what paradise looks like, here is a pic of our new hometown:
Be sure to click on the photo to see the FULL SIZE image! And after that, zip on over to The Catalina Crew blog to hear about our new life as islanders.

Back to Working Out???
The first week home - no way. No running!! I actually tried and my legs said.....
"No way! Not this again!!!"
Second week - eating crappy, running 3 times, lifting weights once.
Third week - Back to it. 2 1/2 miles 3 x per week, lifting weights on the off-cardio days and healthy eating. I like this runner body. I want it to stay for awhile. I also like feeling great without as many "ailments" when I'm exercising!! There will definitely be pigging out and chillin' on Sunday though!
WHO KNEW THAT WE HAD 13 RUNNERS ON OUR TEAM AT HOOD TO COAST??? Congrats Sue & Jared and their "soon to be" marathon runner!! I am in total awe of Sue's ability with this new bit of information we're learning. I would have been so tired!!
Love,
Cath

I just remembered!
Hey - I remembered another of my favorite moments on the race. . .
Marie was running her first Leg and we stopped near a stop light to give her water when she came along. The runners were having to wait at the light until they could cross. So I put an orange reflecter vest on and when Marie came, I took "The Stick" and pretended it was my wand and stopped traffic at the light so she could cross! It was pretty cool how well it worked! I am anxious to see the video! Anyway - thought I would share another fun memory!
